Going Back

Behind my first print shop collection…

I moved to America in 2011 at age fourteen. Considering the cultural and community transition of a cross-continental move, my move was pretty great. The Lord provided friends and opportunities while I grew up, graduated high school, and moved into adulthood.

I decided to go to counseling in January of 2019. I knew I wanted to go visit Turkey, but I also knew I needed the right tools to grieve, process, and prepare for the experience.

I started a series on my blog called

GOING BACK

For other Third Culture Kids preparing to revisit their past homes.

The time finally came, and almost a decade after leaving, I and two of my best friends boarded a flight headed for Turkey.

and it was awesome.

I got to experience “home” while introducing two of my best friends to the food, culture, and people that shaped so much of who I am and how I engage with the world.

I took so many photos…

It was incredible getting to capture Turkey while processing all the emotions of being back.

I always knew Turkey was beautiful, but I wondered if I exaggerated it in my mind the longer I was away…

I hadn’t.

It was even more gorgeous than I remembered. .

and that’s the story behind

THE TURKIYE COLLECTION

I’m honored that family, friends, and even strangers would put my art on their walls. I knew I would cherish these photos, but I truly had no idea they would be loved by others. I can’t wait to go back again and continue to capture a country I’ve gotten to call home.
