Leaving the Magnets Behind

Exerpt written October 9th, 2021.

“If you didn’t know, all our ship walls are magnetic, so good magnets are a hot comdody. I brought my favorite magnets from the Africa Mercy to the Global Mercy. Many people travel with theres, so when they return the ship they are all stocked. You can hang hooks, make storage, pin up photos, and string up lights.

I didn’t think my journey would end this soon. I’ve collected a lot of magnets in my short 9 months with Mercy Ships. If I am being honest, I don’t want to be 100% honest about why I am leaving. I’ve learned a lot about my limits in resiliency and flexibility. I have learned about working with others. I’ve learned a lot about lemonade… which always includes FADO Ikea Lamps and Disco Balls.

So, I’m leaving my magnets behind. Hoping they can continue to create cozy homes and hold up memories and reminders for others. They can outlive me on this ship.”

When I first arrived to Mercy ships, I went into quarantine for a week. This was my door upon arrival!

Even though it was just a week, I pulled out some photos of home to spruce up the solitude.

My ship during the Global Mercy sail for 5 weeks. Thankful for the magnets I did decide to add to my luggage weight! I could put my lights up and everything. <3
